The History of the Municipal Library is located in and witness the work done in 1879 by a commission in charge of Administration. The Commission chaired by Lawyer Raffaele Guastella and she is responsible for inventory and evaluate the books that have to enter the property of municipalities in which the religious corporations that with a Royal Decree will be officially abolished.
The Commission's work leading to the rescue and an inventory of books that are in libraries of the Congregation of the Filipinis Fathers and Convent of the Capuchin Fathers. The next step is to suggest the Administration for the establishment of a Library that can store and manage all these books.
On 4 September 1906 is formally established the Municipal Library located on the first floor of the Town Hall. In November 1907 the City Council draws up the first regulation of the Library providing an annual sum for the purchase of books over the opening to the public twice a week. Is in the position of Librarian Flaccavento, in 1918, the Library has a decisive impetus.
The commitment of religious causes many donations of books and publications. In 1934 the library was transferred to the locations of the Oratory of the Filipinis Fathers, where she remained until 1977 when it built the present structure attached to the premises of the Art School. Currently the library holds 55.000 books including books kept in a branch of Pedalino. The Old Fund, recently inventoried 1.177 book includes the years 1500-1700. Library is an integral part Newspaper and periodical library with 350 newspapers, magazines and periodicals section and a substantial discography with some 1.500 discs of Classical Music, Opera and Folk. In 1995, was fully computerized, using software "Unibliblio" and then, the data was transferred in the system. In 2006, it celebrated the centenary of the establishment of our Municipal Library named after the great Librarian Fulvio Stanganelli that besides being a time of budget is another point that should serve to relaunch in the institutional future of our Library.
